The Bible Unplugged

What is "The Bible Unplugged"? To make a long story short, it's to make a long story short! "The Bible Unplugged" is a short musical summary of the whole Bible. It's less than an hour (or just about an hour for the "Debugged" version, which I highly recommend), it's musical (but not "a musical" since it's just me and the acoustic guitar), and it's a story. It can be seen as a one-hour crash course on the Bible, or it can be seen as just a bunch of songs that happen to tell that story. It really doesn't matter. It's not preachy. I wrote it for both churches and atheists alike. So give me an hour and I'll give you the whole story.

About "The Bible Unplugged"

Why the Bible? And why Unplugged?

For 30 years I taught the Bible to adults at different churches in Miami. I would teach it as a 40 part series, starting with the summary of the whole story first, so that all of the individual stories would make more sense later. That summary took on a life of its own.

Switching hats, for 40 years (and counting) I've been a musician, performing mostly classic rock, playing in bands back in the eighties and nineties before going solo with the acoustic guitar.

In 2015 I suffered a back injury that forced me to stop performing for 2 years. I took advantage of the down time and did something I always wanted to do. As a kid I loved the musicals "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", and I always wanted to do something like that for the whole Bible (not just the gospels). Using my trusty old Bible summary as a basis for the lyrics, the 12 songs practically wrote themselves. As I recovered from my back injury, I started presenting it at different churches, and people loved hearing the whole story in one shot.

In 2020 I gave up my day job to pursue music full time. Yep, January of 2020. It was only one month into my new career that we got hit with a pandemic (of Biblical proportions!) that pulled the rug out from under my gigging feet. Eternal optimist that I am, I took advantage of the unplanned quarantine and recorded the Bible summary the way I performed it - with just the acoustic guitar (ie, Unplugged). On the very day I finished it (62 days later), they started reopening Miami for business. Some things are just meant to be.

Unplugged... and Debugged

To get the most out of "The Bible Unplugged", check out this explanatory version that includes short (2 to 3 minute) introductions to each song. Don't worry about the names of the books of the Bible. Just listen to each song with its introduction. If you can follow along for all 12 songs (which should only take about an hour), congratulations! You will have gotten the whole Bible story, start to finish.

After doing it a couple of times you won't need the introductions any more, and you can refresh the whole story at any time by just listening to the songs. (If you forget what something means, just listen to the intro again). I hope you enjoy hearing it as much as I enjoyed putting it together!

A quick note: To condense the story this much I had to leave out a lot of important stuff so that the overall story would still come through without too many details. You can spend a lifetime studying the Bible and barely scratch the surface, let alone try to summarize it in under an hour. But I hope you find it to be an effective (and cool) way to get the whole basic story down in one shot!
