So why the Bible? And why Unplugged?
For 30 years I taught the Bible to adults at churches in Miami. I would normally teach it as a 40 part series, starting with a summary of the whole story first, so that the individual stories would make more sense in context of the larger story. That summary took on a life of its own and became its own presentation.
Switching hats, for 40 years (and counting) I've been a musician, performing mostly classic rock, starting in rock bands back in the eighties and nineties and then going solo with the acoustic guitar.
In 2015, a back injury forced me to stop performing for 2 years. This gave me time to write set my Bible summary to music. As a kid I loved "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar". I always wanted to do something like that, but for the whole Bible, not just the gospels. Using the Bible summary as the basis for the lyrics, the 12 songs practically wrote themselves! After I recovered from my injury, I started presenting it at different churches, and the reception was honestly overwhelming.
In 2020 I finally retired from my day job to pursue the music full time. Yep, January of 2020. One month into my new career and we got hit with the pandemic that put the world in quarantine and pulled the rug out from under my gigging feet! But, eternal optimist that I can be, I took advantage of the down time (again!) and recorded the songs the way I presented them, with the acoustic guitar (hence "unplugged"). I finished it 62 days later, the day they started reopening Miami for business and I started getting calls for gigs again. It was meant to be!
